• Blair County Association for the Blind – Sandwich Fundraiser

  Volunteers travel to Imler’s Poultry in Duncansville where they join other community members and the staff of the BCAB. Together, they assemble and package the ham and cheese sandwiches sold by the BCAB. (This event is held bimonthly.)

• Cemetery Cleanup

  Volunteers joined with over 50 members of the local community to help restore the neglected Oak Hill Cemetery in Altoona. This community group righted fallen headstones, mowed knee-high grass, and cleared fallen trees. Our volunteers raked grass clippings and picked up limbs and debris.

• Blair County Association for the Blind – White Cane Festival

  The BCAB holds an annual community event for families. The goal of the event is to boost awareness of good vision care and blindness prevention. Volunteers work at various activity stations for children, such as pumpkin bowling and arts and crafts.

• Tyrone Hospital – International Tea Fundraiser (Breast Cancer Awareness)

  Volunteers helped serve tea and appetizers to donors and guests at a fundraiser held at the Tyrone Hospital.

• Monthly Giving Project

  Each month, homerooms compete to collect the most items for a deserving local charity. Recipients include:
  

  • Domestic Violence Shelter in Altoona - Toiletries and personal care items.
  • Central PA Food bank - Non-perishable food items. (Sponsored by National Honor Society.)
  • Toys for Tots
  • Salvation Army in Altoona – winter gear for their winter coat drive.
  • Teens for Jeans - used jeans to be donated to homeless teens nationwide.
  • Centre Clearfield Head Start & Centre County Youth Services Bureau – children’s books.
  • Elementary School in the Philippines – school supplies. (Sponsored by the Human Rights Club.)
  • Huntingdon County Humane Society – pet food and supplies.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities – food, toiletries, cleaning supplies.

  Volunteers help collect items from the homerooms, pack the donations, and deliver them to the local community.

• Jeans for Charity

  Faculty and staff make a donation in exchange for the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays. Student volunteers print and laminate door signs for participating teachers and staff.

• Santa’s Workshop Crafts for a local elementary school

  Volunteers make small craft items. This year the craft was duct tape wallets. The items are donated to a local elementary school’s Santa’s Workshop program where students can shop for holiday gifts for their family members.

• Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive

  Volunteers ring the bell at the Logan Valley Mall or Huntingdon Wal-Mart to collect donations for the Salvation Army.

• Blair County Association for the Blind – Charity Yard Sale

  Volunteers collect unwanted items at the end of the school year when students cleaning out dorm rooms and departing for summer vacation. Those items are donated to a charity yard sale to raise money for the BCAB’s client fund, which allows the blind clients to have ice cream parties, go bowling, or participate in other trips and activities. More volunteers work to set up the yard sale tables and work at the event.

• Healthy Living Women Expo – Tyrone Hospital

  Volunteers worked at various booths at the Tyrone Hospital for their community health expo for women. Volunteers also participated in setup and cleanup.

• Blair County Association for the Blind – Envelope Stuffing

  Volunteers prepare a fundraiser mailing for the BCAB. This event occurs semiannually.

• Little Juniata Riverbank Cleanup

  Volunteers join with the members of the Little Juniata River Association to clean up the litter and debris from the banks of the Little Juniata River near campus.

• Salvation Army – Holiday Gift Wrapping

  Volunteers work at the “Helping Hands” table at the Logan Valley Mall where they wrap holiday gifts to raise money for the Salvation Army.

• United Way – Prom Gown Boutique

  Volunteers helped set up and work at a prom gown boutique where local high school students could shop for prom gowns from a collection of donated gowns.

• Tyrone Hospital – Run for Reading 5K

  Volunteers worked at a charity 5k-road race sponsored by the Tyrone Hospital and the Bellwood Library.

• Red Cross Blood Drive

  Volunteers hosted a blood drive on campus. They greeted donors, aided donors in moving from donor tables to the canteen area, and helped serve snacks and drinks to donors.

• Tyrone Hospital – 60th Anniversary Event

  Volunteers assisted with various booths at this community event in Tyrone. Volunteers also helped with setup and cleanup.

• Autism Speaks – Charity Walk

  Volunteers helped organizers of this charity walk held at the People’s Natural Gas Field.

• Tyrone Hospital - Strides for Breast Cancer

  Volunteers helped pass out information at the Tyrone Hospital booth and assisted the organizers of this charity walk held at the People’s Natural Gas Field.
