Grier Welcomes Visitors from Middle States Association
Grier recently hosted a team of five evaluators from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA). The team spent over three very intensive days reviewing records and planning documents, interviewing key stakeholders at Grier, and touring the facilities. Grier is happy to report that the team recommends to MSA to renew Grier’s accreditation, but this recommendation is only one step in the thorough process to official accreditation renewal.
The evaluation team will share the finalized draft of their report with our Head of School Gina Borst who will review it for factual accuracy. After the evaluation chair makes any needed corrections, he will submit the revised document to the Middle States office where it will be analyzed and reviewed for final approval.
Grier’s decision to be an institution accredited by the MSA is a voluntary one, chosen because Grier understands how beneficial self-study and growth are to the vitality of a school. Accreditation also offers our families reassurance that their daughters are attending a school of the highest quality, committed to continuous improvement in student learning.
As the evaluation team chairperson read the team’s closing remarks, the audience of educators and students witnessed how he found the closely-knit community of Grier and its dedicated teachers and support staff emotionally moving.
In the oral report, the team listed what they saw as Grier’s outstanding strengths, which included our “warm, energetic, purposeful and joy-filled atmosphere that makes students, staff, and families and visitors all feel welcome and safe.” They were impressed with Grier’s commitment to the school’s mission and the “visionary team of administration and faculty with the skills and energy to lead Grier on into the 21st century as a model girls’ boarding school.” Additionally, the team commended Grier’s ability to evolve and incorporate the latest best practices to meet the needs of our students. The team found Grier’s program “extraordinarily effective.”
Grier would like to thank the Middle States Association and the wonderful evaluation team. Additionally, Grier thanks parents, board members, students, and teachers, all who participated in the self-study process these past eighteen months.
