Student Athletes Honored at Spring Athletics Banquet

Grier students who participated in varsity sports during the spring season enjoyed a banquet in their honor held at the Blairmont Country Club in Altoona. Sports represented during this banquet included: Archery, Basketball, Fencing, Riding, Soccer, Tennis, and Volleyball. During the banquet, coaches from each team presented awards.

When Soccer Coach Jenn Payne asked one of the Varsity Soccer Players about the 2016-2017 season, the player responded by saying, “It was a lot of fun and too short.” Coach Payne agrees, adding that the season was definitely fun with a team of players who had mostly never played together before. Basketball Coach Liz Wortman added, "This is one of the best years for Grier Basketball. The girls worked very hard and were committed to the sport throughout the entire season. The team finished with a record of 8-4."

The banquet was a great success and was also a great way to get all of the Varsity sports together in one place. For some, the best thing about Grier athletics is we never lose sight of the most important parts: to work hard, be a teamplayer and have fun!

Conditioning Award: Sherry X.
Defensive MVP: Jaden H.
Offensive MVP: Zehua L.
Zehua L. was also recognized as an Altoona Mirror Honorable mention player for this season.

This year Lindsay S. qualified for Hunt Seat National Finals in Lexington Virginia and McKenzie A. and Lindsay W. qualified for Western Nationals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
