Grier Gives Back at Fall Fun Fest

Grier has partnered with The Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind (BCAB) for many years, with Grier students dedicating many volunteer hours toward assisting this organization in a variety of ways. Some activities take place on the Grier campus. For instance, student volunteers stuff, seal, and sort envelopes for the association’s giving campaign. Students also collect unwanted and discarded items at the end of each school year to donate to the association’s annual yard sale fundraiser. In other cases, the volunteering takes place off-campus. In the past, students have assembled sandwiches at Imler’s Poultry in Duncansville for the Ham & Cheese Sandwich Sale fundraiser. The Fall Fun Day was another such off-campus event.

For the Fall Fun Day, our students traveled to Legion Park in Hollidaysburg. There, the students assisted the BCAB team with the annual event. In addition to supporting and educating community members with visual impairments, part of the BCAB’s mission is to advocate for services and rights of individuals with visual impairments. The Fall Fun Fest is one way the organization achieves this by inviting local families to enjoy playing carnival games, winning prizes, creating crafts, and more. Grier volunteers enjoy serving the community and especially interacting with young children who enjoy the festival’s games and prizes.
