As part of the English-Speaking Union of the United States' National Shakespear Competition, Grier students in grades 9-12 participated in school-wide competitive performances and recitations of Shakespeare monologues and sonnets. Participants enjoyed the experience. Grace W. won first, Katie S. took second, and Mary D. was our third place winner. Great job!
The winner of the school-level competition goes on to compete at the community level (February 18th in Central PA) at Lock Haven University, and winners of the community level competitions advance to the National Competition held in New York City on May 1st. National finalists compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to attend a summer drama program.
The ESU's website states that through the program, "students develop communication skills and an appreciation of the power of language and literature."
