The Library and EGG Club Team Up for Special Event
The Library and Empowering Girls Globally (EGG) Club partnered for a special One School, One Story event. Students and teachers gathered in the Library during Extra Help on to watch the TEDx talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the celebrated author of We Should All Be Feminists.
Adichie's essay was the Library's pick for the 2016-2017 One School, One Story program, a program that encourages the Grier community to read the same book and discuss.
For this event, the library provided tons of great door prizes, including t-shirts, totes, water bottles, magnets, and pins from the United Nations organization GirlUp. This organization empowers girls to stand up for the education, safety, and health of girls worldwide,
Adichie's book is a slim 48-page essay adapted from her admired TEDx talk (shared here below). In the book, award-winning author Nigerian-born Adichie presents an eloquently articulated argument for twenty-first century feminism; one that is more inclusive and embracing of "a wide range of people and experiences" (School Library Journal). This tiny book gives each one of us much to think about and to discuss with each other.
The Grier community will have another formal opportunity to meet and discuss the book and the TED talk. Stay tuned!
