On Friday, February 10th, the Allegria Ensemble performed at Grier in the Instrumental Music Building. This was an excellent opportunity for Grier students to hear and watch a professional string quartet up close.
Members of the ensemble included Grier's own violin teachers, Sally Williams Minnich and Mark Minnich, as well as, Grier's former cello teacher, Jon Dexter and musician Debbie Trudeau.
The special performance for Grier included an original composition by Sally Williams Minnich, a humorous piece by Hayden, a new composition about the racehorse Whirlaway, and an amusing piece about cats.
The Allegria String Quartet is a creative and fun ensemble based in State College. They are open to playing "just about anything," including traditional string quartet pieces, jazzy pieces, but also contemporary pop and rock songs, too! The quartet has played at venues around Centre County, including the Penn State Arboretum's Music in the Garden Festival.
