Grier Recycling & Environmental Clubs Host Movie & Discussion Event
Recently, the Grier Recycling Club and Environmental Club hosted a showing of Leonardo DiCaprio's documentary film Before the Flood. Club member Nora V. reports that over twenty Grier girls showed up to watch the movie and enjoy pizza. A brief discussion of what steps individuals, including Grier students, can take to prevent climate change and pollution followed the film.
Grier's Recycling Club is extremely active. Members are responsible for collecting all recycling in Grier classrooms, offices, dorms, and houses on a weekly basis. This is a massive, well-coordinated undertaking. Members also educate the Grier community on how to recycle properly. Grier's Environmental Club members exhibit deep concern for the environment and their community. Members of the club participate in community clean-ups and special educational field trips. Both clubs combine forces to organize awareness events, such as this special movie viewing and discussion.
According to Before the Flood's website, the documentary "presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions we as individuals and as a society can take to prevent the disruption of life on our planet."
The members of the clubs wish to thank to everyone who came and extend a special thank you to science teacher and club advisor Mrs. Kallie Brubaker for facilitating the event.
