Annual Bowl-n-Soup Event Raises Money for Grier Community Fund
Students and teachers purchased handmade ceramic soup bowls at the Bowl-n-Soup sale in May during lunch to raise money for the Grier Community Fund. Ceremaics teacher Mrs. Heidi Zimbler organized the annual event, which featured not only her own pieces, but also the works of her students.
During weeks prior, the students glazed dozens of bowls for the sale. The bowls were sold for $5-$20. This year's sale also featured large soup mugs for $28 and mugs for $25.
The Grier Community Fund was started in May of 2013 by Mrs. Heidi Zimbler and her ceramics department. The idea was to make bowls throughout the school year and then sell them during the lunch periods in May. The Fund provides financial support to Grier community members in times of need. During the Bowl-and-Soup sale, members of the Kitchen staff provide an assortment of soups. Participants can buy a bowl and fill it with a favorite soup and enjoy! A few years after the first bowl sale, the Pottery Club was established to bring more students into the studio to help make the bowls. Our goal is to make about 200 bowls each year to sell at the Bowl-and-Soup sale. Everyone with or without experience can join the club. Anyone can recommend someone they feel may benefit from this fund at any time by contacting Mrs. Heidi Zimbler.
