Tennis Champ Kristen L. Returns to Grier for 2017 Season
Grier’s Varsity Tennis Player Kristen L. returns to Grier for the 2017 season after an amazing summer of several United States Tennis Association Tournaments wins in the Middle States Division. Merely curious to see how she compared to her peers, Kristen’s parents agreed to allow her to compete in several tournaments. They were very pleasantly surprised when she won every tournament that she entered!
During the summer, Kristen was often competing against top players from the USTA Middle States Division, many of whom were vying for Division I scholarships. Her success earned her a spot on the Tennis Recruiting Network’s Hot 100 List.
Her summer wins include:
Penn State University July 4th Summer Sizzler USTA Tournament - winner of age 18 and under singles division
Indiana University of Pennsylvania Classic USTA Tournament - winner of age 18 and under singles division
Slippery Rock University USTA Tournament- finalist age 16 and under doubles division and winner of age 16 and under singles division
Mount Lebanon Labor Day Junior Open Clay Court USTA Tournament - winner of age 18 and under doubles, winner of age 18 and under mixed doubles, winner of age 16 and under singles
Greater Johnstown Tennis Association Summer Tournament - winner of women's open, winner of mixed doubles open
Kristen’s success was the result of hours of practice, typically four hours per day during the summer. A Hollidaysburg native, Kristen trained at three regional locations including ProCare Tennis Center, Ebensburg Tennis Center, and Northfork Country Club in Johnstown.
A junior at Grier, Kristen is planning for college, where she intends to major in biology/pre-med and play competitive college-level tennis. She is training to compete in the upcoming USTA National Level 3 Tournament that takes place in Erie, Pennsylvania in January.
Eager to represent Grier Tennis this fall and to work with Grier Tennis coach Kelly Forest, Kristen expressed that she truly loves playing the game, especially the strategy involved. The Grier Community and fellow team members are enthusiastic to cheer for Kristen as she takes to the courts!
