Hands-On Experience with Falcon

Recently, Grier's Science Department invited a very special guest for a return visit to campus. Striker, a 16 year-old saker falcon from the Middle East, stopped by for our Grier students to see in person during Extra Help. Students had the opportunity to see the falcon up close. Seventh grade students Grace A. and Janet S. each allowed Striker to perch on their arms for a while.
Striker and his handler, Creature Teacher Jody Wallace from the Blair County Conservation District, helped students learn more about falcon adaptations. Falcons are the fastest animals, traveling at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour when in a dive. Fun Fact: A falcon sitting in a tree at Grier School would be able to see a pigeon sitting on a tree in Tyrone!
