The 5k route wound its way through campus and parts of the town of Birmingham. Grier students, family members, and staff cheered from the sidelines. NHS members sold drinks and snacks that included muffins and cookies from the local eatery Spruce Creek Bakery.
Funds collected from the race registration and sale of snacks and drinks will benefit relief for areas affected by the recent hurricane Irma, one of the hurricanes to devastate the US and Caribbean this fall. The funds collected during the event total over $1234 and will be donated to the
Global Giving Hurricane Irma Relief Fund.
The Grier NHS 5k Fun Run would not have been possible without the effort of many individuals, only a few of whom are mentioned here. It would be remiss not to mention NHS advisor, Mrs. Michele Thibodeau who practiced the 5k route during the summer, organized the event, and managed the registration submissions. Students Flora W. and Teresa W. designed the t-shirt logo that early registrants donned for the run. Tess M. researched charitable organizations. Grace W. took many of the photos from the race, some of which are shared here. Cas C. designed the race day bags and set up the snack stand, which was managed by Iris H. and Karin C. Bella W., Alexa T., and Lauren S. handled same-day race registration. Business Office Assistant, Mrs. Sue Burkey managed the finances and calculated the total. With the help of nearly
every NHS member and the entire Grier community, the run was a great event! Thank you for participating!
