Students in AP and Honors European History classes researched major figures from the Age of Enlightenment and showcased their knowledge during a class “Dinner Party” where students acted and dressed like their famous personae.
As party guests, the students mingled with each other, making introductions and getting to know one another without revealing their names. The challenge was to determine which historical figure each classmate was impersonating.
Figures included:
Rene Descartes
Thomas Jefferson
Mary Wollstonecraft
Immanuel Kant
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Olympe de Gouges
Johann Sebastian Bach
John Locke
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Thomas Paine
...and more!
After the dinner party, each student gave a brief presentation about their famous person. All together, this learning activity was a great way for Mrs. Salyards’ students to fortify their knowledge of figures from the Enlightenment.
